  • Brian McBride, playing in his third World Cup, turned 34 Monday, and he would be 38 at the next World Cup in South Africa in 2010.

Reyes throws 1-hitter, Sox still win

  • In his fourth major league start, Anthony Reyes threw the 23rd one-hitter in franchise history, against the team that had destroyed the Cardinals 20-6 and 13-5 the two previous nights. If not for a misplaced seventh-inning fastball to Sox designated hitter Jim Thome, Reyes might be celebrating something even more historic.The result against the Chicago White Sox was the same as Tuesday and Wednesday -- a loss that completed the defending World Series champions' three-game sweep of the Cardinals. How the 1-0 decision happened sent a pulse through the team bludgeoned early the two previous nights.

NHL Draft: Barring trade, Johnson is No. 1

  • Unless the Blues are wowed by a last-minute trade proposal, general manager Larry Pleau said the club will use the No. 1 overall pick in the NHL entry draft on defenseman Erik Johnson.
