Well, a new series with the Colorado Rockies begins tonight as Jason Marquis takes the mound for the St. Louis Cardinals. He will start against the Rockies' Jeff Francis. This is the first series of the season against an NL West opponent.
Marquis is 3-2 against the Rockies all-time in six starts and has a 4.50 ERA against them.
The home run chase to Mark McGwire's 220 is still on. Pujols is at 217 while Jim Edmonds lags behind a little bit at 214. Left-fielder Larry Bigbie returns to the Cardinals today while outfielder John Gall was sent back down to Memphis. Bigbue missed the first 32 games for the Cardinals and is expected to make his Cardinal debut tonight. While rehabbing in Memphis, Bigbie went .143(5-35) with no home runs or extra base hits.
Left field and second have seen platoons all season long--expect that to continue for the time being
Top prospects:
1B: Chris Duncan (Likely to be a converted outfielder since Pujols will be at 1B for some time)
SS: Brenden Ryan
3B: Travis Hanson
CF: Skip Schumaker
LF: John Gall
P: Anthony Reyes
??: Rick Ankiel (If he has a good year once he comes back, expect him to start in the outfield!)
Our bullpen ranks first in ERA.
